If you don't hold strong to your principles, you will be swept away by some other fella's snake-oil mumbo jumbo- and that's never a good character-building thing!
The word is that the provincial government is about to sanction OCI's UN-Fortunate proposal. The "O- I-Love- China" company wants to leave us a few fish and a few jobs; and the rest they ship off to foreign shores with nary a moral morsel about where all this is leaving us as a province in the long run.
The snake oil argument is that workers here are eating into the company's profit.
Ask ex-MP Bill Matthews - he's done the math for Dr. King; and he's got no scruples in telling us on behalf of his buddy, the good doctor, that we are just not fiscally fit enough to invest in anymore.
"Betrayers" Danny Williams use to call them...
Sure it's easy to make an economic argument about patrioting our fish to China, but just like the poor children in all the rural schools being abandoned, we are more than a number.
We have history, culture and pride and all the real non-superficial stuff like values and principles; and millions of deceased forefathers and mothers who built this great province and expect us all to do our job to keep it together.
We also have enough tenacity in us that we an't agreeing to be shipped off to China anytime soon - no matter who wants a profit.
Not one teaspoon of fish or fillet shall swim from our province unprocessed!
That should be the DGF - Decision Gate FOREVER - stance of any true-blood Newfoundlander and Labradorian - even our government!
So, in a week when DG3 (DEBT-GROWING 3-Fold) numbers are released on Muskrat Fails, let's not have another UN-Fortunate proposal that threatens our very way of life.
Deepak Chopra said that "once the Fabric of society is undone, it takes generations to weave it back together."
If we're smart and fortunate - we won't undo ourselves to begin with ...
There is always a better way - let's at the very least steer towards it!
